On either side are dark sodium atoms, each threaded through a light oxygen helix. The structure in the rear shows pieces of a carbon atom above, below, and around another oxygen helix. The only difference of the rear structure from the carbon monoxide structure of Figure 22 is the angle of the carbon funnels. The angle was not changed, as had been promised in footnote 1, in the next (1951) edition of Occult Chemistry (Figure 168, p. 272).

Jinarajadasa exaggerates when he claims that "this triangular arrangement of O3 has just been deduced by Bragg." It seems unlikely that he understood the single spaced text, which is irrelevant to his argument and reproduces verbatim Nature's abstract of the March 13, 1924, meeting of the Royal Society (Ref. 3). The only freedom Jinarajadasa allowed himself was to capitalise the names of the elements. Presumably he did not have access to the full text in Proc. Roy. Soc. London, 105A, 16-39, 1924, where W. L. Bragg reported atomic positions for aragonite (based on 29 X-ray reflections) and for calcite (based on 19). Needless to say Bragg's structure for the carbonate atom is quite different from that of Figure 24.

N.B. The faint cones near the top and bottom of Figure 24 and on page 606 look other worldly. In fact they are due to ink that over 75 years has bled from a diagram of CO2 on p.605 through p. 606 and onto Fig. 24, which faces 606.
